WinLinux 2000 Beta Review (11-11-1999)

Review by auser

If you like to try new things or are dissatisfied with your current operating system, a good choice to experiment with is WinLinux 2000. Linux is a hot Unix-like operating system that has been in the news a lot recently because of its stability, power, and configurability. While there is a lot to like about Linux, until recently many users felt it was difficult to install. That is now a problem of the past with WinLinux 2000, which can easily be installed in about 20 minutes from within Windows 95/98 without having to repartition your hard drive. It is installed just like all other Windows programs, and is placed in the Start menu where it can be quickly reconfigured if any changes are desired after the initial installation.

WinLinux 2000 comes with plenty of applications, utilities, and 15 games for a productive and fun work environment. It comes with KDE, a graphical user interface that shares many similarities with the familar Windows interface. Beginners will feel comfortable the first time they use it. In addition to KDE, WinLinux 2000 comes with Netscape Communicator for web browsing and e-mail, multiple text editors, a paint program, icon editor, cd player, midi/karaoke player, address book, scientific calculator, and a personal information manager, which among other things can notify you of important business meetings, birthdays, holidays and anniversaries.

Linux is an operating system that provides personal computer users with a viable alternative to the ones currently in use, and WinLinux 2000 makes getting started easy. If you would like more information go to www.winlinux.net. Consider giving it a try. You might be very happy you did.
