The Ontario Soccer Referee's Association Badge

The Eastern Canada Soccer Referee's Association (Ontario Section) was formed in Hamilton on April 5, 1959. At the inaugural meeting, the attendees adopted a distinctive badge in the form of a creamy white shield on a green backing and a tan facsimile of a maple leaf in the middle and the appropriate name surrounding it.

The name of the association was changed to Ontario Soccer Referee's Association at a special general meeting held in Toronto on May 4, 1969. Shortly hereafter the badge was changed to the current design. Both the gold wired dress badge and the cloth uniform badge were the same size, i.e. 4.5" high and 4.0" wide. Some years later, for economic reasons it is suspected, the dress badge was produced in a slightly smaller form.

Notice that the badge on the left is dated. Only the 1996 and 1997 badges are dated. The one on the right is not dated and is now in use and probably will be used in the future.

These badges were scanned by Neil Montgomery and submitted along with the bits of badge history.
